ektara: ek: one, tara: string (in Persian, Sanskrit) - a one-stringed folk instrument or monochord, played throughout South and Central Asia, but mostly in Bengal by the wandering Baul singers. Also called yektar in Persia/Central Asia (as in do-tar, seh-tar). You may also interpret the word as ek tara (one star). Listen to the sounds of ektara.
